Instagram have today updated their iconic logo and branding for the first time.

Naturally, any rebranding exercise by a large company will always attract a lot of attention and feedback. The bright and colourful design abandons the old retro icon design and has been used across the board with their accompanying apps Boomerang, Hyperlapse and Layout.


Feedback seems to be mixed online so far. I really like the new style, the vibrancy and simplicity bring the icon right up to date. It is also a nice change to have an app on your phone screen that doesn’t have a white background!

More importantly, the design of the app itself has also been updated. The new clean, crisp design works wonderfully and lets the photographs take centre stage.
