Styles of Bathroom Design – Shabby Chic and Contemporary

If the designing of a home has undergone a change, the bathrooms must have undergone a very drastic change. Earlier it just recognized of a bath, a basin and a few faucets and now it has turned into a complete room demanding equal attention as our living room or kitchen. In earlier days, luxurious bathrooms were in reach to a limited few. However as more people wanted to bask in the luxury of their bathrooms, more bathroom products have come up providing a wide choice for the consumer to choose from.

The design of bathroom has evolved starting from the very old Edwardian and Victorian styles to the present day Modern day bathrooms with all the renovated bathroom vanities possible. Advancing of technology and plumbing has been used very creatively to create futuristic bathrooms. The famous bathroom designs are Traditional, Country, Shabby Chic, Contemporary and Fantasy.

"Shabby Chic", a term which looks very paradoxical is a relatively new style of bathroom designed and this kind of bathrooms are very difficult to design. The bathrooms of this style look bold and different. You are at the liberty of doing anything in it. If there is an opposite of the classic fitted bathrooms, it is the shabby chic bathrooms.

The shabby Chic is mainly characterized by both neglect and style. It is especially used when someone inherits a bathroom and does not want to go for an entire remodeling of the bathroom. Decoration is done using neutral tones with occasional dark colors. Almost anything can be used for the walls – shades of pale gold, yellow, floral or even a plain checkered pattern.

A cast iron bath would be perfect for the bath and either a roll-top or slipper bath can be chosen for a shabby chic style. The more rusty and dilapidated look you can provide to it, the more it goes with this style. You could possibly get some antique fittings from garage sales. Just keep adding unique and diverse articles into your bathroom without fear to complete the look.

A modern bathroom is designed keeping in mind, the modern day requirements. Space is a real constraint when it comes to bathrooms of today. Using several bathroom vanities, this constraint is adequate, like for instance the cabinets that provide you space to stay organized in the bath room.

Shower baths and walk-in showers have replaced the bath as they occupy relatively less space and give you a chance to experience the pleasure of both bathing and showering. And if you would like to have a private enclosure for bathing, you can opt for a shower enclosure. Bold colors are used in designing the bathroom giving it a very lively look.

The most preferred materials in modern bathrooms are chrome and stainless steel. There are innumerous contemporary designs of faucets and bath mixers to choose from. To keep an even style, even the towel rails, shower enclosures and other accessories can be chosen to be made from chrome.
